Your voice is translated sentence by sentence: the AI waits until a sentence is complete, then translates its full meaning in context — not word-for-word. The short beat before your counterpart hears you is by design. A live bilingual transcript runs alongside.
No plans, no tiers, no subscription for translation. Add balance when you want it and every feature is included — all 73 languages, every voice quality mode, and unlimited browser-to-browser calling. You're billed by the words we translate — silence costs nothing. Phone dial-in is optional; phone-line minutes bill by the clock as a separate charge. Every new account gets 30 bonus minutes free with its first 30-minute purchase.
* Translation is billed on translated words only — about 130 translated words consume one balance minute at Standard quality, times your quality tier's rate, rounded up at the end of the call. Call length is never billed for translation, and silence or idle time costs nothing. Any phone-network line charges bill line minutes by the clock and are priced and shown as separate line items on your receipt.
What counts as a minute? A balance minute is a words meter, not a clock: it represents roughly 130 translated words (about 650 characters) — one minute of typical conversational speech at Standard quality. Higher-quality modes consume more balance for the same words: Natural 4, Studio 7, and Precision 9 balance minutes per ~130 words translated (≈4, 7, or 9 minutes per minute of typical conversation — varies with speaking speed). Very fast speech or unusually dense content consumes balance faster than average; silence and idle time consume nothing. To keep costs predictable, a fair-use cap (default 200 words / 1,500 characters per minute) temporarily switches translations to captions-only when exceeded; the call continues uninterrupted and synthesized voice resumes within the next minute. Final billing counts translated words only — total words ÷ 130, times your tier's rate, rounded up — never call duration. Calling to or from a phone line (inbound or outbound) additionally bills phone-line minutes by the clock (carriers bill that way), always as a separate line item from your words-based translation — see “How you connect affects what you pay” below for per-mode rates.
